Born in Sicily, I often watched my grandfather paint. I was thrilled and excited as his creations evolved and developed. After moving to Hamilton Ontario, Canada at the age of seven, I started understanding that my skills were in the artistic area. Focusing on the beauty surrounding me, I began to develop these abilities while expressing my inner self.
For many years my art was used as a healing process and I challenged myself creatively. I love the positive energy that flows through my brush as I bring my vision to life on canvas. Studying nature’s wealth of beauty in gardens and floral displays near home, I created a Floral collection. Landscapes have inspired my artistic view, and represent freedom for me.
I view nature in a holistic sense. Fabulous mountains with their structure, patterns and colours; mountains often evoke emotions, sometimes solitude, but never loneliness. Nature’s amazing clouds and gorgeous skies: the energy and emotion they awake are echoed in my visions that are transferred to canvas. Nature's rivers, lakes and oceans are often a part of my vision as water reflects an essential part of the life force of our body.
My passion has been enhanced as a result of annual road trips through much of North America, especially the dramatic sights of: the northern and southern Rockies, the Southwest four corner Region and the Florida Keys. My works are now a compilation of these sights. The simplification of form and dramatic light effects in my work pull the viewer into a mystical realm and the image moves beyond a simple representation of nature. |
